Bowl season has arrived! For a lot of college football bettors, they find it to be some of the most difficult games to handicap. There’s a lot to pay attention to, and in the new age of college football, the transfer portal plays a big part.
I’ll get you some of the latest information on these teams for Saturday. Including injuries, NFL Draft opt-outs and transfer portal departures. Let’s dive in.
NCAAF Player Prop: Sam Wiglusz Receiving Yards
The transfer portal has been a killer for this Ohio Bobcats team. That’s why we have Wiglusz sitting at a number he’s failed to hit in 7 of 10 games this season.
Ohio will be without wide receiver Miles Cross who’s 79 targets this season were 2nd only to Wiglusz. The next closest receiver had more than 25 fewer passes thrown their way.
Not only that, the Bobcats see both their starting and backup running back head to the transfer portal as well.
So expect third string QB Park Navarro (replacing now Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke) to be utilizing their top wideout plenty in the passing game.
Wiglusz is capable of being a target hog in this offense, posting double digit receptions in a pair of games this season. Moving the ball through the air should be effective against the Georgia Southern pass defense that ranks 98th in the country.
NCAAF Player Prop: Rashad Amos Rush Yards
Yet another spot where we see a lot of red, but if you do enough digging you’ll expect a different outcome. There’s a reason why this is priced the way it is.
The Redhawks closed the regular season as MAC Champions but have been dealt a really tough hand at the quarterback position. Brett Gabbert fell to injury with just a few weeks left in the season and now his backup Aveon Smith, who started in the conference championship game, has elected to jump in the transfer portal.
That leaves third string QB Henry Hesson, who has attempted 5 collegiate passes, to start at quarterback.
That means Rashod Amos will be leaned on heavily to take the pressure off their quarterback. As he’s been for the last 5 weeks, averaging nearly 16 carries per game.
He should be very efficient with those carries too, Appalachian State ranks 122nd in opponent EPA/rush. Their 5.9 opponent yards per carry is the 5th worst in all of college football.
NCAAF Player Prop: Jaydn Ott Rush Yards
Finally we turn to some late night action in the Independence Bowl. Golden Bears running back Jaydn Ott has been fantastic as of late. Having only gone under in his last 5 games to really stout run defenses in UCLA and Oregon.
The Red Raiders are not a defensive unit to be worried about, ranking 99th in opponent EPA/rush. Allowing 5.0 yards per carry as well. They’ll also be missing nose tackle Jaylon Hutchings in this one, who leads the team in run stops this season.
Ott has been the focal point offensively for Cal, getting at least 20 carries in 5 straight games. There’s no reason to expect it to be any different in this one.
