We’ve got a jam packed holiday weekend of sports, but don’t let these college football bowl games sit on the sidelines!
If you’ve been paying attention so far, there’s a couple things to glean from the first few games of the postseason. The first coming from Western Kentucky, where NFL bound wide receiver Malachi Corley played the first half on Monday night before finding himself in street clothes in the second half.
There’s landmines all over this college football bowl season, so we’re going to operate with discipline. Let’s jump into the Christmas Eve’s Eve slate!
NCAAF Player Props: Kimani Vidal Rush Yards
Both Troy and Duke see their head coaches head off to greener pastures in Tulane and Texas A&M respectively. But even before this game kicks off, one team seems to be more bought in than the other.
The Blue Devils see a litany of opt outs in this game. The offense sees their starting quarterback and running back, among others. While the defense is losing their starting linebacker, defensive tackle, cornerback and edge rusher.
Trojans running back Kimani Vidal is coming off 200+ yards and 5 touchdowns performance. He’s the workhorse for this offense, averaging 22.7 carries per game.
Duke has been a solid run defense this season, their 4.6 yards per carry allowed are 46th in the nation. But for a defense playing without it’s defensive minded head coach and absent key tacklers at the line of scrimmage. This feels like a team with one foot out the door for 2024.
NCAAF Player Prop: Jalen Royals Receiving Yards
We head to Idaho for the iconic Potato Bowl between Georgia State and Utah State. Where the Aggies will be turning to Levi Williams at quarterback with starter Cooper Legas injured.
Williams took the reins for the last two games of the season, where Royals was able to clear this receiving line in both games.
I see this matchup being no different, Georgia State has struggled to defend the pass all year ranking 123rd in opponent EPA/pass. Opposing QB’s are averaging 8.6 yards per attempt, which is 125th in the nation.
As you can tell by Royals’ longest reception numbers, if he hits a big play he’s going to be able to clear this number. With Williams at quarterback he’s got a better chance to do so, he is a attempting a pass of 20+ air yards on 25% of his attempts, that’s 11th amongst all quarterbacks in college football.
NCAAF Player Prop: Ben Bryant Pass Yards
Injuries, the transfer portal and NFL Draft opt-outs seem to be weighing heavily on the Utah roster. I think it’s something we can take advantage of in this game.
The Utes will be playing without safeties Sione Vaki and Cole Bishop along with cornerback JaTravis Broughton. These are major contributors and some of the most talented players still left on this roster.
Meanwhile Northwestern sees just one starter in the transfer portal, and plenty to play for after being an afterthought before the season kicked off.
This is a pretty balanced offensive attack from the Wildcats, but there is a clear deficiency they can attack in the Utah pass defense. Even more so when you see that Utah’s run defense is one of the better in the country, ranking 22nd in opponent EPA/rush.
